. . . Floatin down the Delaware, chewin on her underwear . . .
So here we are, five years after my N is for No post (http://sarasplacetorant.blogspot.com/2008/05/n-for-no.html) and I have watched V for Vendetta after all this time and, I might add, a very adamant refusal on my part. I read the blurb for it on the TV Guide thingy and a friend of mine said, "No, you have to watch this. You are at a place now where I think you will enjoy it." He was right.
I won a Ron Paul shirt in a raffle recently. While I was glad to have won a prize, I gave it to my friend. When he asked why, I said, "There is no fucking politician whose face I want on my body. That concept is by its very nature abhorrent to me." He looked at me somewhere between happy awe and frightened awe as he took the shirt from me.
In America, we seem conditioned to binary opposition: Reps/Dems, Left/Right, 1%/99%, conservative/liberal, capitalist/socialist. But what about those of us who are neither? I have finally broken the brainwashing of my youth and unfettered my mind from capitalist bullshit nonsense. But am I socialist? Fuck no. Either system implies things to me that are diabolical. You trade one master for another; you're either a slave to your government (socialism) or a slave to transnational corporations who do not give even the smallest crap about you (capitalism). Personally, I don't want to be a slave at all! I am not lazy and I do not expect someone else to support me and provide for me. But I have to say it is infuriating to look at your own "metrics" at work. You see the chunk the government gets and you see the amount your employer is making off of you . . . Then you see what you have taken home and it makes your blood boil. You go sit in an uncomfortable chair under fluorescent lighting in a cube farm for what? Basically just to survive. As Bill Hicks said, "If you think this is a free country, try going somewhere without money." Exactly.
I think sometimes we find concepts when we're ready for them. Five years later, it turns out I was ready.
