No spoilers, I promise.
I have returned from an advanced screening of Thor TDW and I am so glad I went. I'll post a more comprehensive, spoilery review later. But for now, out of respect for my readers, I'll keep quiet about plot details. Suffice it to say I thought it was great. I didn't care much for Iron Man 3 and I was worried that this might be a disappointment or a big crappy joke on the fans. (You know who you are, Mandarin.) But no-- it's funny and self-effacing without being obnoxious or insulting to the fans. The surprise cameo made me laugh out loud and the peculiar meta story behind it-- a character playing a character then being parodied by the character later-- cracked me up. In fact, there were many times when we all laughed out loud and a few times where we choked up a little. That's all I will say for now.
While I was waiting on the movie to start, I read an article about Lorde's comment about feminism. In the words of Loki, "I like her."

I don't think she's too far off base. How far does the shock value/human train wreck factor have to go? These things get blasé so fast anymore that a boob slip or a crotch shot (The Birthday Boys have a hilarious sketch about a sleazy paparazzi dude, BTW) ain't what it used to be. It's like people want to see a full-tilt, horrendous meltdown of another human being disintegrating on live TV. "I don't care about her nipple showing; I want to watch her destroy her life irreparably with drugs and booze and then read about her suicide a few years later. Good times." Oy vey.
This is why I avoid tabloid TV whenever I can escape it and I'd rather see a superhero movie. If Dr Doom were here, he'd know what to do!

Why yes, I would like for there to be ponies!
More to come. I hear coyotes howling and it is giving me the creeps.
