McSorley's Irish Black Lager

Picked this one up knowing nothing about it. I liked the bottle and it sounded good. I'm in the process of undergoing treatment for TMJ, which sucks ass. You remember the old skool practice of using whiskey for teething babies? That was my general thought process, LOL. My teeth, jaws, and gums are sore; I just wanted a beer, dammit. McSorley's it was.

The bottle doesn't make clear that you're getting something from Pabst. It looks more like a quaint old beer for someone like, say, Archie Bunker. Again, all that said, I didn't much care because I was the teething baby, not the connoisseur or the snob! I have to say: I don't think it's half bad. It's kinda sorta like Guinness but a little lighter and smoother. You won't get overwhelmed. The aftertaste is sweet and easy. It has taste and texture similar to coffee or Coke. Best of all, it knocked down some of my angry mouth pain, which was truly the objective. The smell and color aren't nearly as enticing as the Wildeman Farmhouse but I was not in the mood for a bitter, pungent aftertaste. This is something you could drink while you have a sandwich and some chips. Seems like a good little "taking it easy" beer.

On my scale:
Smell: 2.5/5, Taste: 4/5.
