Subtitle: I'm on that next shit now
Sub-subtitle: More accurately, I am about to nod off but I am profoundly hungry and I am desperately trying to make my calorie quotient for today before I go comatose
Due to brain-tiredness, I'm just gonna free-form this one. It will be decidedly political in nature because I got so riled up talking to a friend tonight that I am in, like, full out flag-waving mode.
*Hope everyone had a good NYE and was safe.
*Peace out, 2009. Don't let the door hit you on the way out. Had some good times, yes, had some crap times. Here's to a better year now.
*Agree or disagree, I don't care-- this is my blog and I'm gonna say it: We need another Reagan. I'm an Independent because I gave up on the Republicrats and Demopublicans long ago. There's not much room for libertarians in the two party system. Having said that, in terms of raising national pride, it's hard to top Reagan. Imagine it: "It's morning again in America." Gives me goosebumps-- of optimism.
In case you are of little faith, please read the Cato Institute's study of Reaganomics at http://www.cato.org/pub_display.php?pub_id=1120&full=1. A $4000 gain in income would be a nice situation even now. Surely GWB's approach of being the SPENDINGEST president since LBJ (http://www.cato.org/pubs/tbb/tbb-0510-26.pdf) has taught people that the government throwing money around like it's going out of style causes this kind of bullshit mess we're in now. And one thing I can say from direct, personal experience after traveling abroad is that we need a leader who'll give us that Reagan-esque sense of pride. I always go back to the story my college friend, Marion, told me about "western world nouveau socialists": if they'd ever had to really live under socialism, they would never want to experience it again. I feel so very proud and so very happy to live in this country. In light of what recently happened with the attempted terrorist attack on the flight to Detroit, I look at these ads and think, "Yes, we DO need to be strong."
No administration is perfect and I'm not saying I agree with either of the major political parties in this country on all or even most issues. But let me put it this way: do I want a president who goes around to apologize to the world for GWB's idiocy or do I want a president who'll be like, "The last guy screwed up but I'm here to make it right and if you jack with us, you will cease to exist." Think about it. I am pining for a president who'll restore that sense of national pride and national confidence. Don't get the idea that I'm saying Reagan was perfect or that I agree with every single thing he ever did or ever said. I want someone strong on national defense (not national offense or empire building) and someone who'll re-create that feeling of morning in America.
We deserve to feel good again.
Happy 2010
