At least the power stayed on

Various thoughts, observations and comments in no particular order, although I will save fitness-related material to the end for those of ye blog readers who are probably bored by all of that.

*I am somewhat sure I saw Karl Rove in a white Lexus (or is it Lex-ass?) wearing an Elmer Fudd hat and throwing dowwwn on some Quiktrip coffee.

*Going to the grocery store before a winter storm is scary. But so is going after one on the first day of the thaw. At any point you expect to see Mel Gibson with a gun popping out from an abandoned aisle.

*Whenever I am in a public place and an obnoxious yuppie family walks in I feel like if my ovaries have not already been rendered sterile from previous obnoxious yuppie families, they are surely close to be shrunken like prunes from horror.

*In watching the Grammy Awards, I do not know what or where "The Fame Factory" is but if it causes you to pop out in a thong unitard with soot smeared on your face and plastic hands bursting out of a piano, I'm gonna have to take a pass card on ever going there. (Some of Lady Gaga's music has grown on me as you will see in the list I am making later in the blog but the fashion has not.)

*This weekend's Soup was hilariously funny. If you still have the chance to watch it, DO SO. During the clip of the little girl humping the wolf I thought I was going to break a rib laughing. On the one hand, I am sitting there thinking, "Ya know, I really wouldn't mind going there with David Selby on Dark Shadows," but to see a little kid doing weird sex moves with a man in a joke-ass, broke-ass wolf costume was just awful. Funny as a mofo but completely and utterly disturbing. (http://www.eonline.com/uberblog/the_soup/b164437_big_extremely_bad_wolf_on_little_miss.html) I think Joel McHale's quip was something like, "Wow. Benicio Del Toro's remake of The Wolfman sure is dark." *rolling laughter*

*If you like vamps, check out this article: http://www.empireonline.com/features/movie-draculas/ I remember being ready to riot at Richard Roxburgh's portrayal of Dracula in Van Helsing. I think there was a point in the film where he subtly makes the eat-out sign and I laughed loudly. But I had been drinking when we saw the film so perhaps that played a role. I bring that up because the line in this article that his Dracula was more like "Michael Bolton's Dracula" is c'est classique. And I agree with the posters who wondered why Louis Jourdan's Drac was not on the list. That's a travesty. I think he is one of the most truly Mephistophelian of any of the Draculas. (Naturally I am biased on that topic.) Hell, I wouldn't kick him out if ya know what I mean.

*More Grammy commentary: perhaps Stevie Nicks can show Taylor Swift how it's done.
*The snow and ice storm sucked this weekend but at least the power stayed on. After the bullshit of 2007, there was mass paranoia. I was like, "If this SOB power goes out when the season premiere of Kitchen Nightmares comes on, I am going nucking futs on someone's ass." I am still having my own nightmares about that thick soup that he described as glue and the three week old potato skins with the potato scooped out. Gross.
*I can't hear that song "Cars" without singing the Family Guy words about Brian and Jillian.
*My assbone is sore like someone kicked me right in the pants today but I have no explanation for it. But it can cease and desist immediately.
And now on to the fitness part, which can be freely skipped if you have no interest.
I ran 10 minutes today during my power walk workout and for me, this is a big deal. For avid runners, I am sure that sounds like nothing but for someone who isn't an avid runner and is just trying to push farther, it was a major accomplishment. This probably won't help my randomly sore buttbone but hey, it was a good thing nonetheless. Like the chocolate discussion, I was in a conversation about workout music so I am going to post a few of my favorites. I am going to limit myself to a list of 30 for now but will post more periodically. They are not in any particular order but they are all upbeat, fast choices. Plenty of slow songs exist for your cool down period or stretching but I am decidedly focusing here on music to up your motivation.
