In picking up where my last blog left off, I have to say that even though Halloween is my favorite holiday, I am kinda glad it’s over for this year. I think it’s because I have a limited tolerance level for kids and after being mobbed by them for 2.5 hours, I feel like I have crossed the threshold and am ready for them to go away. The mask I was wearing was hot as hell (but totally worth it) and that added to the low patience phenomenon. After the trick-or-treaters dwindled, I shut things down and went with a friend to see Saw VI. On the way to pick her up, I noticed that my favorite radio station had turned into 24 hour Christmas music. How in the hell on Halloween night can you play Christmas music? On Sunday, I discovered that a second radio station had also gone to 24 hour Christmas music. You expect this on Thanksgiving weekend—but not Halloween weekend. I am totally astounded. Pretty soon, 4th of July will double as the official launch of the Christmas season. I have a small tolerance for Christmas music but how can anyone listen to it for two months? I do not understand this. When I am cooking Xmas food or decorating, yes, OK, I will listen to Christmas music. But I don’t much want it blasting at me for two months. What is up with the world? I’d say that if the radio stations are going to start the Xmas music, people need to get in the Christmas spirit, at least. I went to the post office today and the people I encountered were just rude. I thought for a minute I had been transported back to London against my will, LOL. There was a woman in front of me at the automated machine and she walked away with the machine still running, i.e., she had not closed out of her transaction and anyone could’ve walked up and made additional purchases. I asked her if she was finished and she gave me a horrible look and hissed, “Yessssss. I am.” I closed out her transaction and thought to myself, “No good deed goes unpunished.” When I finished and tried to get out the door, a crazy woman cut me off. She had frizzy, crazy hair and I get the impression it must match her personality. She was wearing a Christmasy outfit but she was clearly not in the mood. At all. She threw the door open, not even remotely bothering to hold it for me, and stomped out in a mad heat. The entire way to her car, she grunted and groaned. If not in the spirit for Christmas, at least have some joy and good cheer for Thanksgiving.
Heavy sigh.
I am sad to say that Saw VI was not what I expected. It gets very preachy. If you have not seen it yet, I do not want to be a spoiler. Suffice it to say that it is a not even remotely veiled attack on insurance companies and the general debate on American health care. If I go to watch Saw, I don’t expect to get a dose of opinion in there. I found it odd. The film is not terrible if you like the franchise. It’s just worth noting that you better be prepared for some heavy-handed editorializing with your torture flick.
